OFFENCES AGAINST THE PERSON 1861
Section 27 provides that it is unlawful to expose children whereby the life of such child is endangered.
Section 43 provides that persons convicted of aggravated assaults on females and boys under fourteen years of age may be imprisoned or fined.
Provisions relating to rape, abduction and defilement of women are found under Sections 49 – 55. This includes provisions on procuring the defilement of a girl under age (s. 49), carnally knowing a girl under ten years of age (s. 50), carnally knowing a girl between the ages of ten and twelve (s. 51), and attempt to commit the above offences (s. 52). Section 53 includes provisions regarding abduction of a woman against her will, from motives of lucre and fraudulent abduction of a girl under age against the will of her father. Forcible abduction of any woman with intent to marry her (s. 54) and abduction of a girl under the age of sixteen (s. 55).
Child stealing is provided for under Section 56. Other provisions include attempts to procure abortion (s. 58 – 59) and concealing the birth of a child (s. 60).
