NURSERIES AND CHILD MINDERS REGULATION ACT 1948

The Act provides for the regulation of certain nurseries and of persons who for reward receive children into their homes to look after them.  Section 1 requires local authorities to keep registers of nurseries and child minders.  Section 2 empowers the local health authority to impose requirements in connection with registration.  Section 3 provides details relating to certificates of registration.  Section 4 describes the penalties for failure to register and for breach of requirements under Section 2.  Section 5 provides details relating to cancellation of registration.  Section 6 gives details relating to appeals.  Section 7 applies to the inspection of premises used for the reception of children.  Section 8 states the exemption of certain institutions from the provisions of the Act.  Section 9 allows for an exclusion of Sections 4 and 7 of the Act where child life protection enactments apply.  Section 10 also allows for an exclusion of child life protection enactments where premises are registered under the Act.  Section 11 provides details relating to the prosecution of offences.  Section 13 gives the short title, interpretation and the extent of the Act.
