NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT 1948
The Act terminates the previous poor law and provides for the assistance of persons in need by the National Assistance Board and by local authorities. The Act also makes further provision for the welfare of disabled, sick, aged and other persons for regulating homes for disabled and aged persons and charities for disabled persons.
Sections 2 – 3 provide details regarding the National Assistance Board. Section 4 imposes a duty on the Board to Assist Persons in need. Section 5 provides details to determine need for assistance. Sections 16 – 20 apply to re-establishment centres and reception centres.
