MENTAL HEALTH (AMENDMENT) ACT 1982

Section 1 provides the definition of mental disorder.  This includes the replacement of ‘sub-normality’ by ‘mental impairment.’  Section 14 provides the definition of relative and nearest relative.  Section 40 provides a duty of managers of hospitals to refer cases to tribunals.  Section 41 addresses applications to tribunal by patients under the age of 16.
