Magistrates’ Courts Act 1980

Section 24 sets out provisions relating to the summary trial of information against a child or young persons for indictable offence.

Section 29 empowers the magistrates’ court to remit a person under 17 for trial to a juvenile court in certain circumstances.

Section 36 provides a restriction on fines in respect of young persons.  Section 37 sets out provisions for the committal to Crown Court with a view to borstal sentence.

Section 62 sets out provisions relating to the payments to children and when payments are required to be made to the child.

Section 103 sets out provisions relating to the evidence of children in committal proceedings for sexual offences.

Section 146 sets out rules about juvenile court panels and composition of juvenile court.

Schedule 7 sets out consequential amendments.
