EDUCATION (NO 2) ACT 1986

The Act amends the law relating to education.

Part III sets out the organisations and functions.  Section 16 sets out provisions imposing general responsibility for conduct of certain schools.  Section 17 imposes a duty on the local education authority to state the policy relating to the school curriculum.  Section 21 provides details of school terms and holiday sessions.  Section 22 contains provisions relating to discipline and general duties.  Section 23 relates to the exclusion of pupils and a duty to inform parents.  Section 24 provides details on the reinstatement of excluded pupils in county controlled and maintained special schools.  Section 25 applies to the reinstatement of excluded pupils from aided and special agreement schools.  Section 33 sets out provisions relating to admissions.

Part IV contains miscellaneous provisions.  Section 43 contains provisions regarding freedom of speech in universities, polytechnics and colleges.  Section 45 provides a duty to secure balanced treatment of political issues.

Part V is a supplemental section.  This provides details on interpretation (s. 65) and commencement (s. 66).
