CINEMAS ACT 1985
The purpose of this Act is to consolidate the Cinematograph Acts 1909 to 1982 and certain related enactments with amendments.
Section 1 requires a licence for exhibitions. Section 1(3) relates specifically to the conditions and prohibitions regarding the admission of children. Section 2 provides that consent is required from licensing authority for exhibitions for children. Section 4 sets out the regulations by the Secretary of State and Section 4(2)(b) allows regulations to include the health and welfare of children in relation to attendance at film exhibitions. Sections 5 – 8 describe the exempted exhibitions.
Sections 10 – 15 set out the provisions for enforcement. This includes listing the offences (s. 10), stating the penalties and forfeitures (s. 11), provides details regarding the revocation of licence or consent (s. 12), sets out when powers of entry can be used (s. 13), explains powers of arrest and seizure (s. 14) and sets out offences by bodies corporate (s. 15).
