Children And Young Persons (Amendment) Act 1952

Section 1 explains the definition of ‘in need of care or protection’.  Section 2 imposes a duty on the local authority to investigate if they receive information suggesting that any child or young person may be in need of care or protection.  Section 3 provides for substitution of custody in special reception centre for custody in remand home.  Section 4 applies to the power to vary a commitment or to revoke a commitment and make a new commitment.  Section 5 provides details where the parent or guardian is unable to control the child or young person and amends ss. 35 and 64 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933.  Section 6 provides details on approved school orders.  Section 7 sets out arrangements between managers of approved school and local authority.  Section 8 amends the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 in respect to exposing children under twelve to risk of burning.  Section 10 provides for interpretation.
