BOARDING OUT 1933 No. 787

Arrangements for boarding out are set out in Regulations 4 – 13.  This includes a requirement that the local authority shall make arrangements for every child or young person committed to their care to be boarded out as soon as possible with a suitable foster parent (Regulation 4) and not more than two children shall be boarded out in the same foster home with the exception of brothers and sisters (Regulation 5).  A foster child will not be boarded out where there are more than four other children or young persons resident (Regulation 7), where a person is in receipt of poor relief within twelve months (Regulation 8), where a person has been convicted (Regulation 9) and without a medical certificate as to suitability (Regulation 10).

Regulations 11 – 13 set out the procedural requirements and set out provisions relating to documents.

Provisions regarding religious persuasion are set out under Regulation 14.

Details of supervision and visiting are provided for in Regulations 15 – 18.  This includes visits from the local authority within the first month of a child being boarded out (Regulation 15).  Medical care provisions are included under Regulation 19.  Placing in employment is addressed in Regulation 20 and Regulation 21.
