ADOPTION OF CHILDREN (REGULATION) ACT 1939
Adoption societies are covered in Sections 1 – 6. Provisions include restrictions on making arrangements for the adoption of children (s. 1), details relating to the procedure and right of appeal where registration is refused or cancelled (s. 3), details regarding regulations (s. 4), the inspection of books and of registered adoption societies (s. 5) and provisions relating to arrangements made by registered adoption societies (s. 6).
The protection of adopted children by welfare authorities is provided for under Section 7. This provides that certain adopted children are to be supervised by welfare authorities. Amendments are covered under Section 8.
Miscellaneous provisions are set out in Sections 9 – 17. This includes a prohibition on payments in respect of adoptions except with leave of court (s. 9), restriction on advertisements (s. 10), restrictions on sending children for adoption abroad (s. 11), offences committed by bodies corporate (s. 12), prosecution of offences by registration authorities (s. 13), service of notices (s. 14) and interpretation (s. 16).
