Health And Social Care (Community Health And Standards) Act 2003

This Act abolishes the National Care Standards Commission and replaces it with the Commission for Social Care Inspection. (Section 42 & 44).

The Act also amends the Care Standards Act 2000.

Chapter 5 of the Act  (sections 76 to 91) sets out the functions and powers of the CSCI including under section 88 to power to enter premises used by social services.

Chapter 7 of the Act deals with the transfer of functions of the CSCI under the Care Standards Act 2000.

Chapter 8 deals with the other functions of CSCI, boarding schools and colleges, and secure training centres.

Chapter 9 deals with complaints about social care. Section 114 says that the Secretary of State may by regulations make provision about the handling and consideration of complaints about social services.
