Part II sets out the rights and duties of parents.  Provisions include the construction of enactments relating to parental rights and duties (s. 2) and agreements as to exercise of parental rights and duties (s. 3).

Parental rights and duties where parents are not married are set out in Sections 4 – 9.  This includes parental rights and duties of the father (s. 4), exercise of parental rights and duties (s. 5), appointment of guardians (s. 6), rights with respect to adoption (s. 7), rights where the child is in care (s. 8) and consents to marriages (s. 9).

Orders for custody are provided for in Sections 10 – 11.  Orders for financial relief are provided for under Sections 12 – 14.  Alteration of maintenance agreements are set out in Sections 15 – 16.

Part III deals with property rights (s. 18 – s. 21).  Part IV sets out provisions relating to determination of relationships (s. 22 – s. 23).  This includes declaration of parentage legitimacy (s. 22) and provisions as to scientific tests (s. 23).

Part V sets out provisions relating to registration of births.  This includes the registration of the father where parents are not married (s. 24), re-registration where parents are not married (s. 25) and re-registration after declaration of parentage (s. 26).

Part VI contains miscellaneous and supplemental provisions.  Section 27 relates to artificial insemination.  Section 28 applies to children of void marriages and Section 29 addresses evidence of paternity in civil proceedings.

Section 33 sets out amendments, transitional provisions, savings and repeals.
