Part I includes provisions under Chapter I relating to the Curriculum.  Provisions include duties with respect to the curriculum (s. 1), details on the national curriculum (s. 2), a duty to establish the national curriculum by order (s. 4).  Religious education is addressed in Sections 6 – 9.  Duties with respect to certain requirements are provided for (s. 10).  Chapter II relates to the admission of pupils to county and voluntary schools (s. 26 – 32).  Chapter IV contains provisions that apply to grant maintained schools.  This includes a duty of Secretary of State to maintain certain schools (s. 52).  Religious education is provided for in Sections 84 – 88.  Chapter V contains general and supplementary provisions.  This includes an obligation to enter pupils for prescribed public examinations (s. 117).

Part II relates to higher and further education.  The functions of local education authorities with respect to higher and further education are set out under Section 120.  Chapter IV contains miscellaneous and supplementary provisions.  Section 156 sets out provisions applying to the government and conduct of certain further and higher education institutions.

Part III contains provisions applicable to the education in inner London.  Section 165 sets out the development plans for education.  Section 166 provides information regarding the responsibility for schools.  Section 193 provides details relating to the information and access to documents.  Section 202 – 208 set out provisions applicable to academic tenure.  Section 203 sets out the duty of Commissioners.  Miscellaneous provisions are contained in Sections 218 – 226.  Provisions include further details relating to school and further and higher education regulations.  Section 219 sets out powers of Secretary of State in relation to certain educational institutions.
