Nigerian couple on probation for assaulting child

The BBC reports on a Nigerian couple, who broke a little girl’s finger and left bruises all over her body after hitting her with sticks.  They have been given given a year’s probation.

The couple claimed that these were normal Nigerian punishments.The offences came to light when the children told teachers at their school.

The children in this case might well have a claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, a government body charged with compensating victims of violent crime.
