Man gaoled for attempted murder

The BBC reports that a man has been gaoled for a minimum of ten years for trying to kill his baby son.

Teesside Crown Court was told that the father committed the attacks so that he could stay with child’s mother’s. This sad case demonstrates the extent to which some people are prepared to abuse children, simply to gain some small advantage.

Hopefully there is no long term damage. Potentially the child would have a compensation claim against the father (who is unlikely to have any money or assetss to satisfy the judgement) or to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority a government body set up to compensate victims of crime.
