Convictions for rape in Scotland at 25 year low
The BBC reports that the number of people convicted of rape in Scotland has dropped to a 25-year low. Apparently just 25 of the 821 rapes reported in 2008/09 resulted in a conviction.
The low conviction rate for sexual crimes is not restricted to Scotland. It is in fact a sad feature of this type of crime, particularly where the victims are very young children, in which case it can be very difficult indeed to secure a conviction with substantial corroborative evidence.
