Abusers from Jersey begin appeal
The BBC reports that two men convicted of historical abuse in Jersey care homes have launched an appealed against their convictions. One man had been found guilty of 8 counts of indecent assault against three girls, as well as assaulting a teenage boy.
The other man was found guilty of numerous offences after two trials in May and June 2009.
What rights of compensation will the victims have? Jersey operates under a different system of law to that of the United Kingdom. Whereas in this country we have a relatively developed system of compensation for victims of child abuse (for instance the present Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority scheme). It is understood that a solicitor in Hampshire, Alan Collins of Verisona is dealing with the victims of abuse of Jersey Care Homes.
