Nursery worker names sex victims

November 9th, 2009 by Malcolm

BBC News reports that a nursery worker has named some of her victims. Vanessa George, who pleaded guilty to abusing children at Little Ted’s Nursery in Plymouth has been convicted along with a man and another woman. She is due to be sentenced on the 13th November 2009.

The judge in the criminal trial had urged Ms. George to cooperate with police and identify the children.

It is possible that Ms. George’s plea of guilty and her co-operation with the police will be taking into account by the judge in passing sentence. Under English law it is at the discretion of the judge whether to take these factors into account, co-operation in itself is not a mitigating factor. It remains to be seen what sentence will be passed, but clearly these are very serious crimes against very young children.

The maximum sentence that Ms George is likely to receive is in the region of 8 to 10 years. This includes a maximum sentence for indecently assaulting the children which is 7 years and a maximum of 10 years for producing pictures involving penetration.
