Nursery Worker due to be sentenced
BBC News reports that Vanessa George, who was convicted of sexually abusing a child as well as distributing indecent images, is due to be sentenced.
The case is linked to investigations into a Plymouth nursery, where images of children are alleged to have been taken.
Malcolm Johnson & Co. has followed this story from its beginning and Malcolm Johnson spoke on LBC radio about two weeks ago. He was asked how the judge might approach the issue of mitigation, in light of the possibility that one of the abusers was prepared to identify the children who had been photographed. He was also asked how many years the abuser might receive.
In general the offer by an abuser to identify those children who had been photographed would not be taken into account for the purposes of mitigation. However it might well form part of the judge’s general consideration of the case. In terms of sentence, I would guess (based on my experience of other cases) that a sentence of around eight years would be imposed on Vanessa George.
