Jail for Jersey home sex attacker
The BBC reports that a former care worker at a children’s care home in Jersey was convicted of abusing teenage girls in the 1970’s. He had worked at the home between 1970 and 1974 and lived in a flat on the premises with his wife and two children.
A case of this nature shows how far back the authorities are prepared to go, to investigate abuse in children’s homes. One of the most prominent investigations into abuse in children’s homes was that which took place in North Wales, and is reported in Report of the Tribunal of Inquiry into the Abuse of Children in Care in the Former County Council Areas of Gwynedd and Clwyd since 1974 (February 2000 HC 201) – this investigated the abuse of children in North Wales and covered the period 1974 to 1990.
Another case of historic child abuse was reported by the Bournemouth Daily Echo which carried a report of a man who was jailed for abuse, which had happened over 40 years ago.
The BBC also reports the case of a priest from Cornwall, who has appeared in court charged with a series of historical indecent offences against girls in a school between 1977 and 1978.
