Sexual assault on 14 year old girl in Ilkley
16th June 2009
BBC News reports an assault on a child by two men in Ilkely. It is reported that two men have been arrested in connection with the offence.
Assaults of this kind are particularly disturbing, particularly after the recent alleged rape of a 13 year old girl in the Leeds Area. The relevant statute under the criminal law is the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Part 1 of the Act makes provision for sexual offences. Sections 1 to 4 cover the non-consensual offences of rape, assault by penetration, sexual assault and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. Sections 5 to 8 deal with rape and other offences against children under 13. Consent is irrelevant to these offences.
