Serial paedophile jailed for life
5th June 2009
BBC News reports that a serial paedophile has been jailed for life for raping three young children, and forcing them to have sex together. The man from the Port Talbot area already had a previous conviction in March 2002 for an indecent assault on a six year old girl. His youngest victim was aged five.
Each of this man’s victims would have claims to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. In cases of sexual abuse, this compensation scheme provides compensation dependent on the type of sexual assault. However as an alternative a victim could make a claim for psychiatric harm, dependent on the severity of the damage. In addition each of the victims might have a claim against the abuser direct. It is sometimes thought that abusers are “men of straw” with no assets at all, but this is not necessarily the case.
