Paedophile abused girl
13th August 2009
BBC News reports how a child abuser has been convicted of abuse at Perth Sheriff Court. He abused a girl whilst she was between the ages of six and eleven at his home in Perthshire. When police raided his home, they found images of children being abused.
Abusers often target children in their area, whom they invite into their homes. In this case the abuser let his victim play computer games.
Compensation for child abuse claims in Scotland can brought through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. However there also exists the possibility of making a civil claim against an individual or an organization responsible for the child at the time. In the case of J.M (AP) V FIFE COUNCIL [2007] CSOH 18 [link] a Scottish court awarded a man £75,000 “solatium” for horrific abuse sustained as a child.
