Increase in arrests of child abusers
20th May 2009
BBC News reports that the number of suspected child sex offenders arrested over the past year has risen by 10%. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection unit said that the tactics used by paedophiles were evolving. Apparently offenders are using more peer to peer networks and newsgroups.
Sections 9 to 15 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 set out a series of “child sex offences”, including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, arranging or facilitating commission of a child sex offence and meeting a child following sexual grooming.
