Doubt over ’shaken baby’ theory
Scientists have called into question, a medical theory that has led to the imprisonment of a number of women for shaking their babies. The Telegraph Online reports that a combination of injuries used to diagnose abuse can happen naturally.
Schedule 1 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 (from where the term “Schedule 1 offender” originates) contains a list offences against children and young persons in which special provisions apply. Offences cover murder and manslaughter, infanticide, specific offences under the Offences against the Person Act 1861 or other offences involving bodily injury to a child or young person.
