Brothers jailed for life for child abuse
BBC News reports that two Kent brothers have been jailed for sexually abusing a series of children under 14. Their crimes took place in a period between 1993 and 2005.
Lee Wicks and Colin Wicks were sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court. They will serve a minimum of nine-and-a-half-years. Lee Wicks’ partner, Tina Butcher was also jailed to helping him to assault one of his victims.
Child protection officers from Kent Police conducted a two and a half year investigation into the crimes committed by the two men. It is understood that they will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Paedophiles are often caught only after a long history of abuse. The crime goes on inside the community unreported for years, until eventually a victim speaks out or the abuse comes to the attention of the authorities. There are a number of cases where partners of abusers have either turned a blind eye to the abuse, or actively assisted the perpetrator.
