Boy aged 12 is not the father of child
20th May 2009
BBC News reported that a boy who was reported to have fathered a child at the age of 12, is not in fact the baby’s father. Tests have established that a 15 year old boy is in fact the father of the child.
The Sexual Offences Act 1956 provided that intercourse with girls under thirteen and intercourse with a girl between thirteen and sixteen was a criminal offence. The Sexual Offences Act 2003 now provides a distinction between intercourse with a child involving a person who is 18 or over (Sections 9 to 12) and a person who is under 18. (Section 13). The distinction is essentially the sentence handed out for the crime.
